ATI completed Architectural and MEP Engineering services for the Tenant Improvement at CSU East Bay Oakland Center. This Oakland Student Center consists of approximately 7,500 sf of existing space. ATI designed, renovated, and expanded the space to approximately 16,500 sf. This all-inclusive facility is equipped with high speed WIFI and AV equipment, LCD projectors, whiteboards, and tele-conferencing abilities. The design intent was to provide additional resource space to the many graduate program students who are on site most of the day, including additional classrooms, two student lounges, study rooms and hoteling space.
Before design began, ATI’s conducted a site investigation and developed an understanding of the user’s experience. To ensure that the space was going to be utilized in the most efficient way, our team designed swing spaces so that offices can also function as study rooms. The design also included 5,600 sf of flexible-format meeting rooms. Our engineering team then designed new lighting and MEP systems.
This project required thoughtful phasing as an existing tenant was unable to relocate. With this in mind, we quickly drew up phasing plans for approval. Phase 1 was completed on time and students were able to move in for the Fall semester. Meanwhile, Phase 2 was completed by semester break.
