“Everyone has been affected by Cancer, whether it was fighting the disease yourself or having experienced a family member or friend fight it. We at ATI can help support or represent those who are still fighting or just being diagnosed”, Donna Foster, ATI employee
SAN RAMON, CA- On Saturday morning, several ATI employees along with family and friends set out to California High School in San Ramon, where the annual American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life took place. Dressed in their purple and white t-shirts, employees walked a total of 24 hours around the school’s track to help raise money for the fight against cancer.
If you aren’t familiar with the event, the annual fundraiser brings out supporters, survivors, and patients to walk laps, participate in family-friendly activities and share a special moment to honor those who are currently fighting or have fought a battle against cancer.
Making A Difference
ATI’s Relay For Life Team this year was led and organized by Donna Foster, ATI’s Construction Administrator and a cancer survivor. Our team walked alongside a total of 24 registered teams and 187 participants at the event.
“Everyone has been affected by Cancer, whether it was fighting the disease yourself or having experienced a family member or friend fight it. We at ATI can help support or represent those who are still fighting or just being diagnosed”, said Donna.
Each year, ATI strives to take part in local community and charitable events such as Relay For Life. As an organization, we feel it is our due diligence to give back to the community and make a difference in any way that we can.
“As Albert Schweitzer said, “I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.”- I have found that through my years of Community Service and supporting charity, there is nothing more rewarding than the giving of time, talent and treasure to worthy needs of others. In each of these endeavors, the reward from serving far outweighs the effort involved”, said ATI’s president, Paul DiDonato.
A Major Success
As for the end result? The Relay for Life was a huge success. ATI’s team came in 3rd place, raising over $5,000 that will go towards researching a cure for cancer.
The final total raised between all teams was $55,029.46.
In addition, ATI took 1st place for our cancer awareness poster, designed in-house by our Marketing Coordinator, Alla Hesse.
Overall the experience was positive. Our team was able to get out into the community, connect with one another, and make a difference in the battle against cancer.
“This was such a wonderful experience to be a part of! I am so thankful and so honored to say that I helped fight cancer and that I helped get us one step closer to the cure”, said Ashley Turnham, who came all the way from ATI’s Costa Mesa office to support the cause.
When we asked the team leader, Donna, what her most memorable moment was from the event, she said “Hearing that survival rates for cancer has increased to 22% because we relay. The money we raise not only helps the current cancer patients but funds continuing research to find the cure!”
We are incredibly proud of our ATI team for coming together to take action for such a meaningful cause.
